Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of Keep Their Words, including our text message program. By creating an account, you agree to them.
What Keep Their Words does
Keep Their Words sends a person you choose (the storyteller, usually a parent or grandparent) one question a week by text message. They tap a link, record a video or audio answer, and the recording is saved privately for your family.
Text message program

- A weekly question about your life with a link to record your answer, plus at most one reminder if you haven’t answered.
- Frequency
- About 1 message per week (up to 2 with a reminder), plus a one-time welcome message.
- Cost
- Free to receive from us. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
- To stop
- Reply STOP at any time. You’ll get one message confirming you won’t receive any more.
- For help
- Reply HELP, or email hello@keeptheirwords.com.
How someone agrees to receive texts
- A family member creates a Keep Their Words account and enters the storyteller’s name and mobile number. They confirm it is the storyteller’s number and that the storyteller would welcome the messages.
- We send the storyteller one welcome text explaining who signed them up and what to expect, and asking them to reply YES to start.
- No questions are sent unless the storyteller replies YES. If they don’t reply, or reply STOP, we don’t text them again.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. We never share mobile numbers or opt-in information with third parties for marketing. See our Privacy Policy.
Your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- Only add a storyteller whose number you have permission to share and who you believe would welcome the texts.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You’re responsible for activity on your account.
Subscriptions and cancelling
- Paid plans renew automatically each month or year until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from your account. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- We’ll tell you at least 30 days before any price change.
Your stories belong to your family
You and the storyteller own the recordings. You give us permission to store, process, and show them to your family solely to provide Keep Their Words. We don’t use them for anything else, and you can download them at any time.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Keep Their Words to send messages to anyone who hasn’t agreed to them, to harass anyone, or to store content that is illegal or that you don’t have the right to share. We may suspend accounts that do.
The service
We work hard to keep Keep Their Words running and your stories safe, but the service is provided “as is,” without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time. If we ever shut down Keep Their Words, we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice so you can download every story.
Changes to these terms
If we make meaningful changes, we’ll email account holders before they take effect.
